What is Chopper Hostel

Chopper Hostel is an idea based on years on the road with an old Shovelhead. What if there was a place with great local riding that you and likeminded chopper jockeys could gather and ride without all the glitz and bullshit common in today’s ‘events’.

A place to camp in the woods, sit by the fire, and ride your shit in the hills and twisties of the Appalachian Mountains. A place with maintained primitive camping, shower facilities and a shop to work your old iron.
Although not limited to old motorcycles, choppers and bikes with iron cylinders are encouraged. Why, this isn’t poser riding. This is chugging through the mountains, scraping around hairpins and stopping along the way to smoke a joint and enjoying the view. No stoplights to rev your motors at and riding that will challenge your ability to navigate a hairpin, not riding 4 miles to your local gin joint.

Where it started
Starting as a supervisor’s house in a mining camp in Fayette County some 100 years ago the property eventually fell victim to the opioid crisis that ripped through Appalachia like a plague. This caused the camp to fall into the hands of pill heads and tweekers eventually destroying the house and covering the property with trash, junk and al the worst things imaginable.
Looking for a place to call home and use as an art studio for my oil painting endeavors, I noticed the property for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The price was less than the cost of a titled Shovelhead and its condition made me question its actual worth.
There was a year’s worth of work just to clear the property and the house was stripped of anything they could sell. It was a shell of a house loaded with the worst kinds of garbage and rotting timbers. It could be done but I was probably the only guy stupid enough to attempt it, so I countered with 2k less than the sale price to the deed holder. In desperation they accepted and were never heard from again.

Armed only with a few tools, an old van and a handgun the ongoing clean up took two years before any progress was noticeable and only punctuated by the fires lit daily to assist in the clean-up. Progress was slow but progress was made just the same.
All was good until another lunatic got out of prison and made my life a living hell when she moved into a camper next door with her bi-polar disorder fueled by meth. Normal tweeker stuff like mowing the rocks at 3:00am or vacuuming her yard at noon.
I was making plans to introduce bees or badgers into the trailer, but I knew that this was a problem would hopefully solve itself. A month later it did. She set her place on fire and I bought the property out from under her.
Now with six acres and access to more it’s time to invite some friends over to ride bikes and just chill out.

what’s the cost
I’m opening Chopper Hostel to allow people to hang out, see my artwork and subsidies my income so I can continue to paint. Donations are encouraged to maintain the facilities and help to improve Chopper Hostel for the upcoming years. I’m starting from the ground up so improvements will be ongoing. I’m looking to build this into something special with new features every season. Consider your donation an investment in the future of a place that you are invited to return to.
whats’s allowed
Bikes of all kinds are invited but choppers and cast iron cylinders are encouraged. If your showin’ up, bring your cool shit if possible. Come alone or in a group, there’s plenty of room.
what’s not
No kids, pets, or tweeking of any kind.
Be respectful! Any disrespect of any kind towards me or my neighbors will be delt with with extreme prejudice.
