Starting from nothing

Here’s the entire thought process behind Chopper Hostel… Opening scene; Me pissing off the front porch looking out at the grass turning green, “That would be a really cool place to camp.”. The next day on social media “I’m opening a chopper Mecca of sorts…”

I’d had a few ideas floatin’ around my gourd but nothing that I took to serious. I had noticed that when I found myself fuckin’ around settin’ shit on fire around the danger hut there were all kinds of primitive campsites on the property that would look cool with a chopper and a tent on it. So here we are today.

I’m opening the gates of my property for the summer for folks to ride cool bikes around the southern Appalachia mountains. I have places on my property for primitive camping ready and plenty more comin’ so you’ll have your pick of cool ones to choose from. The riding is great here and my place would be cool with choppers on it. Bring your camping gear.

I cleared some land, putting in a fire pit and repairing the big ass tent. That’s where it’s startin’. Initially I need to see the sites people gravitate to and as time goes on improve on those sites and others. An outside shower/bathroom is the next large improvement and will be up and running in the early part of the season.

The situation is I’m throwin’ the dice and hopin’ for the best. I’m not lookin’ for a blowout every time somebody rolls down the Holler. Leave all that ‘chopper rally’ horse shit home with your mommy and have a seat by the fire, share some smoke and a few laughs.

Chopper Hostel is my home. I’m just havin’ friends stop by.

I’m dippin’ my toes back in the water with people and this whole motorcycle thing. I don’t need some chump in my front yard flexin’ for the Gram and makin’ me start questioning my decision and contemplating a felony. You got the urge to raise some hell, I get it…not here. I’m old, I’m armed and you’re on my lawn.

The Hostel is located down in a holler and I make it a point to be respectful to the others that live here. I ask you to be respectful also. This is the heart of southern poverty, just be cool.

The compound itself is a work in progress. I have cleared the place of an unimaginable amount of trash so don’t be surprised if you hit a brake pad or ball joint when you’re stakin’ down your tent. It won’t make the grass less comfortable when you’re done. Many of the campsites are level areas that were cut into the hills that where the used to strip cars. A couple of generations of choppin’ cars under your belt and see if your house don’t have a car part or two in the back forty. Like I said, it’s a work in progress.

I have longer term goals and once the infrastructure for camping is operational, I need to get right on them. A success to me with Chopper Hostel if I can afford to keep painting for years to come as the studio and grounds become an art installation itself along the lines of the Cosmic Shed in East Texas, Luna Parc in Northern New Jersey or the Shady Dell in Bisbee Arizona.

That being in mind I will always be interested construction materials, interesting structures and just cool shit in general. Anything to move the project forward is appreciated. Forward to what end? I have no idea.

This year however, we’re just campin’ in the grass and chuggin’ through the hills. It’s gonna be bare essentials, chuck a tent next to your sled and enjoy the hills. The trajectory of Chopper Hostel will be determined by how it works as a chopper campground first and foremost. That will remain its purpose no matter which direction it takes.

Chopper Hostel is a one man show but that doesn’t mean I can’t use a hand. Although I am completely capable of doing anything that needs to be done but some things are just easier with a few guys. The first of many big jobs is addressin’ the big ass tent. I need to shorten and move it. A few strong hands on such projects would be great.

Aside from swingin’ a hammer or draining a swamp if really want to help financially is the BEST way bar none. I am currently scrambling to keep my lights on thanks to that punk in office. That’s the way it’s been for a while. Taking on the added cost of Chopper Hostel’s construction and the time out of the studio to get it ready I could definitely use donations to help out.

If you are interested in cntributing I can be contacted through my personal email hamsteakdawg@gmail.com while my other email is being set up.

I will also be having a fundraiser coming in a few weeks once things have settled. One of the driving forces of Chopper Hostel is to allow me to be able to afford to continue painting without worrying about where my next meal is comin’ from. Think of it as an investment towards your next possible chopper destination.

Chopper Hostel is in its infancy, but it’s already gotten a positive response as more and more people are leaning towards a good ride without the sensory overload of the rally scene.

Let me know your ideas and opinions on the doin’s over here. Subscribe to Chopper Hostel keep watchin’. Also, if your thinkin’ of comin’ down let me know via email at hamsteakdawg@gmail.com
